Although a typical Georgia home insurance policy usually covers the structure of your home along with the contents, often the policy may be broken into two separate sections for contents insurance and buildings insurance.

Home buildings insurance coverage usually protects the outer shell of your home and the permanent or fixed parts of your home. These items may include the fitted items in your bathroom such as sink, bath, toilet and shower. In your kitchen, buildings insurance usually covers the sink and fitted cupboards and in the bedroom’s built-in wardrobes are usually covered.

Your shed, and garage are also typically covered by a home buildings insurance policy. In the event a problem does occur with your home’s structure or your insured items, some policies may also offer coverage for alternative accommodation if you need to stay elsewhere while your home is being repaired or items replaced.

It may be tempting to leave out the contents coverage if you think your possessions aren’t worth a lot. However, you should keep the worst case scenario in mind – if your home burns down and your contents aren’t covered, you’d need to pay to replace everything from furniture to clothing if they weren’t covered by your Georgia home insurance.
