As Atlanta motorcycle insurance experts, we are well aware of the risks on the road. Of course, risks can lead to misfortunes… and we are reporting a very serious misfortune today as shared by the AJC.

A motorcycle race on a South Cobb County road ended in an accident that killed one of the motorcyclists last Friday, said police.

Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said that the operator of the second motorcycle was “engaged in a speed contest” and was motorcycle racelater arrested and charged with first degree vehicular homicide.

Just before 9:30p.m. Friday, Russell E. Kennedy, 38, of Lithia Springs was racing another biker on Riverside Parkway near Hartman Road when he “attempted to negotiate a slight curve in the road at a high rate of speed.”

Kennedy fatally struck a concrete curb, along with several trees when he lost control of his 2006 Yamaha YZFR1.

A witness told investigators that the driver of the second motorcycle initially stopped but fled the scene.

Police later charged Jason K. Roddy, 34, with vehicular homicide, racing and reckless driving. Investigators were able to take the link information provided by the witness and correlate the motorcycle description and its owner with a home in Lithia Springs.

If anything, we hope this story encourages motorcyclists to practice safer driving habits because unfortunately, accidents do happen.
