Understanding the insurance “lingo” will help make sure you get the coverage you want!  The following information from www.autoinsurance.org summarizes some of the most common auto coverages…

1.) Liability coverage pays for accidental bodily injury and property damages to others.  Injury damages include medical costs, pain and lost wages while property damage includes damaged vehicles and property.

2.) Collision coverage pays for damages to your vehicle caused by a collision with another vehicle or object.

3.) Comprehensive coverage pays for damages that were not caused by an auto accident, such as floods, vandalism or theft.

4.) Medical coverage pays medical expenses despite of fault in an auto accident.

5.) Personal Injury Protection coverage pays for medical expenses for the insured driver, regardless of fault, due to an auto accident.

6.) Limits and Deductibles apply to certain types of coverage and determine how much the policyholder will have and how much the insurance company will pay when a covered claim is made.

Could you save on Georgia home insurance by Installing CCTV Security?

home insurance johns creek gaCCTV or closed circuit television was originally invented and used for observing places and items that were potentially unsafe for human contact. While CCTV systems have been used in home security for a long time now, recently there has been an increase in the quality along with a significant price reduction. This could be fantastic news for home owners because installing a CCTV may help deter burglars and so reduce the risk of a burglary related claim having to be made against your Georgia home insurance policy.

Modern CCTV security equipment is lighter and more compact than ever before. CCTV can scan or pan to locate suspicious activity and then zoom in and tilt to highlight the intruder’s appearance. Often CCTV cameras remain in sleep mode until movement is detected therefore keeping power usage to a minimum. Your security footage may be viewed through your personal computer, lap top computer or cell phones with an internet connection.

CCTV security systems are available in a wide range to suit most homes. The modern wireless design is often easy to install and easy to add to as your budget allows. Tell your Georgia home insurance agent about your increased security and find out if you may be eligible for a premium discount.

Alpharetta GA Auto Insurance

Presents:

Eeek! Mom’s baby gets a drivers license?!

QUICK FACTS:

  • Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations.6
  • In 2008, 25% of drivers ages 15 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes had a BAC of 0.08 g/dl or higher.10
  • Compared with other age groups, teens have the lowest rate of seat belt use. In 2005, 10% of high school students reported they rarely or never wear seat belts when riding with someone else.10
  • Facts provided  via CDC Websiteteenage driving risks

We can all remember what if felt like to hold our very first driver’s license. Fresh off the DMV press, thoughts of freedom, independence, friends and un-chaperoned road-trips fill every teenager’s mind.

Let’s be honest, having your Mom roll-up in a friend’s driveway, restlessly honking her high-pitched horn until you acknowledge that her forest green minivan is your “ride” surely puts a damper on your “too cool” teenage reputation. This reputation, as most of us may remember or observe, is what a typical teenager works effortlessly to build.

Yet, as all teenage parents know, a new license feels much different when it’s being placed in the hands of your teenager. Why, “just yesterday” he/she was drinking from bottles and singing nursery rhymes… and now that same child is spreading his/her wings and facing the real dangers of driving.

Our staff at Gillman Insurance is full of parents that know this story all too well! In addition to providing auto insurance solutions for your new driver, we’re extending our professional problem solving skills to offer you tips to make the transition to teenage-driving a little easier.

1. Explain that Limits are in place!

The most dangerous driving phase for a teenager is within the first 6 months to 1 year.  Be clear about setting boundaries and expectations from the very start. This makes for no discrepancies. Also, be sure to eliminate possibility of potential distractions, especially while your child is building basic driving experience. A teen’s chances of an accident increase with each additional teen passenger and driving between the hours of 9pm and midnight.

2. Reward Good Performance

Once your teen has exemplified good driving habits and behaviors, acknowledge it by giving them more responsibility and freedom.

3. Set a Good Example

Drive the way you want your teen to drive. By using your phone while driving, not buckling-up or occasionally speeding, you’re losing credibility! Of course, this is never good for a parent because we all like to keep our “boss” status! But really, if you expect your teen to follow driving rules, you must start by always following them as well.

4. Recognize your Teen’s Need for Independence

Don’t let your stress consume the experience! Acquiring a drivers license is an exciting time for a teenager and be sure to acknowledge the achievement. Be sure to let them know that your rules are only aimed to protect (not control) them.

5. Stay Involved!

Create an open environment where you and your teen can talk openly about driving concerns and address questions. Inquire about where your teen is driving, when your teen will arriving at his/her destination and getting home. If you play an active role in your child’s life on the road, they’re more likely to model your expectations.

If you’re a parent to a newly licensed teen driver, we hope you could take a break from the hair-pulling and palm sweating long enough to read these basic tips! Keep in mind that with the right guidance, communication and support, you can make driving an enjoyable new experience for your son or daughter!

New Yorkers Moving to Atlanta?

ATLANTA IS TODAY’S “HOT” NESTING SPACE?

Trulia, an online real estate engine, has been tracking where users are looking for houses and has compiled a report of the most popular searches from July to September. People living in some of the nation’s largest cities are looking at ours truly, Atlanta!moving to atlanta boxes

This is good news for us at Gillman Insurance because the more homes and families we can protect, the better! But, where will these homes be exactly?

Trulia’s chief economist, Jed Kolko suggests that, “a lot of the search behavior we see is from the central [Atlanta] metro area to some of the smaller lower-density nearby areas.”

Because houses are very affordable in metro suburbs, metro Atlanta is attracting attention.

Kolko forecasts that “Realizing that by moving to the suburbs they can buy a home, many urban dwellers will also add to this future demand as they gravitate away from big cities toward suburban and smaller metros.”

While this is great news, there is a ‘less than peachy’ side to the story. There are about 150% more searches going out than there are searches looking in our metro area.

Top searches in Atlanta come from:

1. New York

2. Washington

3. Chicago

4. Philadelphia

5. Tampa

6. Seattle
